Morrisville Year Round Elementary School, located near North Carolina's Research Triangle Park, has a strong commitment to providing rigorous innovative lessons for all students. Morrisville maintains its willingness to take risks in trying out initiatives that will improve student engagement. Morrisville has built a collaborative culture where teachers plan weekly in their Professional Learning Teams with a focus on creating lessons that include critical thinking, collaboration, communication, and creativity. Technology has greatly impacted the way teachers provide instruction and the ways students learn. Teachers are intrigued by the possibilities of technology and constantly seek out digital resources to engage students in high level learning tasks. Technology has provided students creative ways to collaborate, share their learning, and connect with learners around the world. Morrisville continues to maintain their status as a School of Excellence which is due to the incredible teaching practices that are implemented. Meaningful staff development that is aligned to our School Improvement Plan is provided to all teachers. In addition, teachers use data to drive instruction and provide students with feedback that will ensure growth. Students take ownership of their learning by using data notebooks to monitor their progress as well as student led conferencing. Teachers provide students with specific feedback on how they can improve and create next steps to reaching their goals. Accountability is necessary for student and staff as they work to meet the high demands of learning. Morrisville's commitment from the entire school community results in student excellence, high achievement, and growth.
