Davis Drive Elementary School - Cary, NC

At Davis Drive Elementary, our staff partners with parents and our community to ensure that the focus is always on our students. We warmly greet over 1000 students each morning as they travel hallways that display their academic work and artistic creations. Our school offers a comprehensive academic curriculum that inspires, enables, and empowers students to meet high academic standards, utilize creativity, and demonstrate citizenship. Technology and hands-on learning are integrated across disciplines. Students research through websites and online databases, collaborate using Google Apps for Education, and publish their work.

Davis Drive uses data to analyze instructional effectiveness, guide instruction, and measure student learning. A school-wide data team meets regularly to analyze data and determine how data will be used. One school-wide practice that makes Davis Drive Elementary so successful is the tiered process of identifying, placing, and serving learners in literacy intervention. We closely examine test scores and other forms of data to determine intervention needs. Students are strategically grouped for literacy intervention by intensity and type of skill deficit. This data-driven practice of placing students in literacy intervention is successful because it is a team approach with strong support from our administration.
