South Elementary School is one of eight high achieving elementary schools in the Hudsonville, Michigan community located between Grand Rapids and the Lake Michigan coastline. South currently serves approximately 435 pre-kindergarten through Grade 5 students who come mostly from within the City of Hudsonville. Our school mission includes providing students with opportunities to reach their highest potential and to nurture respect, responsibility, and a positive self-image. These goals develop collaborative and productive members in our society. We recognize that success can only be achieved through the cooperation of staff, students, parents, and members of the community in a welcoming and safe environment.

Over the past few years we have worked to tighten the cycle of formative assessment to better inform our instructional decisions. Staff make a concerted effort to know their learners well through various formative assessment strategies. Data from these assessments guide in-the-moment adjustments to instruction and future lesson planning. In addition, we've extended support outside the normal school day for targeted students through after-school tutoring opportunities and our Summer Reading Club.

Our success, including being recognized by the State of Michigan as a Reward School, is due in large part to our supportive parent community, district colleagues, and the greater Hudsonville community. Students benefit from a number of partnerships including an after-school program at a local YMCA, mentors through Kids Hope USA, and numerous volunteers including many fathers/step-fathers through WatchDOGs.

South Elementary - A great place to grow and learn!
