A typical day in the halls of Shepard.

Alan B. Shepard Middle School in Deerfield, Illinois was named for the first American in space and the fifth man on the moon. Since opening in 1961, the school has encouraged students to meet Admiral Shepard's challenge to "shoot for the stars." Shepard's mission outlines its purpose: to provide educational experiences of the highest quality that engage, inspire, and empower each student to excel and contribute in a changing world.

From the moment students, staff, parents or visitors walk into Shepard Middle School, they are a welcome member of a Shepard community that is committed to its shared values. These shared values are posted at the doorway and throughout the school:
Work as a team
Persevere
Hold ourselves accountable
Exhibit respect
Be trustworthy
Achieve balance

The community commitment is the foundation for the success that Shepard students enjoy in the classroom. It fosters innovation - and Shepard facilities are the perfect place for that innovation. Award-winning science labs and STEM and Communication Media Arts labs, as well as newly renovated music and arts classrooms, are state-of-the-art learning spaces that encourage creativity and collaboration.

The school closely and continually partners with parents in their children's success - and families send Shepard students who are ready to learn, eager to succeed and excited to contribute to their school community.
