Indian Creek Elementary School is a K-5 school nestled in the heart of the Linn-Mar Community School District in Marion, Iowa, and reflects our mission of "Success and learning for all every day!" The families in our school are highly involved and engaged in the education of their children and we have a close relationship and partnership with them. Indian Creek is known for its high expectations, academic achievement, and nurturing, student-centered environment. The traditions that are ingrained in our culture revolve around the importance of families. There are several key strategies that have been utilized over time to assist us in striving to reach our goals. First, our school is a PBIS school. Through this process, our staff has worked to identify and explicitly teach our schoolwide expectations. We recognize that a learning school is first and foremost a school that is safe and orderly. Secondly, we are constantly molding our dedication to becoming a PLC. Collaborative achievement teams meet weekly to discuss student learning and plan their team response to the learning data. We utilize grade-level intervention blocks in our daily schedule, which allow teacher teams to intervene in order to enhance student learning. Lastly, the entire staff at Indian Creek works to embrace technology as a learning tool for students. Teachers work with our teacher librarian, our technology integration specialist, our instructional coach and their grade-level teams to implement technology tools for student learning through activities tied to core content standards in all areas.
