Since 1929, Morningside Elementary School in Atlanta, Georgia has been the center of the local neighborhood. We are a College and Career Preparation school with consistent results as one of the highest performing schools in our state. Our school received recognitions from the State of Georgia Governor's Office of Student Achievement in 2005, 2006, 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2015. The majority of our 880 students walk to school each day, creating a sense of belonging and friendship! We develop the whole child, through an enriching program with high expectations for all. Strong literacy is a key element as we believe it makes the curriculum accessible to all students. The majority of our teachers have received intensive instruction in reading and writing across all content areas through the Georgia based Complete Reading Series and the nationally known Academy of Orton-Gillingham. Our teaching methods balance a wide variety of texts, manipulatives, investigations, in-school and out-of-school activities, above grade level and review experiences as we guide students from teacher dependence to student independence. It is part of our mission for children to be exposed to cultures and arts from around the world so that they are inspired, motivated, and globally conscious. Each year our PTA sponsors local chef & garden tastings, as well as performances of opera, ballet, puppet, and musical shows. We believe that this exposure to the local community and enriching programs creates a high level of inspiration and motivation in our students which translates to strong classroom performance.
