MES staff out front on the Rock Planters!

Our mission at Malakoff Elementary is to provide a caring, yet disciplined environment where students are prepared to succeed not only in school, but in life as well. Some of the challenges Malakoff Elementary School faced in becoming a National Blue Ribbon school is our large population of economically disadvantaged students (over 70%) and our high mobility rate (over 30%).

When other districts inquire about our success, we explain to them it’s not about a specific program. It’s about the dedicated staff who work with our students. It’s a dedicated staff that puts many extra hours into preparation, analyzes student progress, and holds their students to high expectations. It’s about a staff that works together like a well-oiled machine for the benefit of all students.

If one was to single out one program that led to our success, it would be our after-school tutorials. This program begins early in the school year and runs through the spring. It is totally based on analysis of student data with an emphasis on keeping the tutorial groups small. The entire staff is involved giving everyone ownership of our success.

In keeping with our mission statement, we also provide many opportunities within the school year for students to experience life outside the classroom. One of our most inspiring is our annual Veteran’s Day program where veterans in our community come and celebrate with our campus. This has instilled in our students an appreciation for veterans and a love for country.
