Canyon is a thriving small town with a population of approximately 15,000 residents that lies in the heart of the Texas Panhandle. Canyon is a community that primarily employs jobs in agriculture and education. The town is also home to the second largest canyon in the United States, Palo Duro Canyon State Park. Canyon Intermediate School, home of the Rocky Eagles, serves 600 fifth and sixth grade students in an upper-elementary setting, providing a transition between elementary and junior high. The school staff believes in educating and supporting students in preparation for a boundless future by instilling the desire to become life-long learners and productive citizens. All students are exposed to a rich academic curriculum including a variety of fine arts programs, such as theater, choir, art, and band. As a Title I campus with a continuous increase in economically disadvantaged students, the staff focuses on highly engaging instruction and effective interventions in order to support student success. Staff members work together to create a safe learning environment that promotes meaningful and positive relationships. In partnership with parents, learning is purposeful and students are high-achieving. Canyon Independent School District has long enjoyed a reputation of a history of excellence. Canyon Intermediate School exemplifies high standards by continuously receiving state distinctions for high performing academics.
