Baker School is one of three elementary schools in the Upper St. Clair School District. Upper St. Clair’s vision of “Customizing learning, nurturing potential…delivering excellence” is carried through at Baker on a daily basis. The Baker Family, our entire school staff, works together to meet each child where they are academically, socially, and emotionally and then help them progress to where they need to be. The district’s focus on a balanced approach to literacy and a blend of conceptual and traditional approaches to mathematics helps our students realize that one size does not fit all and that they can be smart in many different ways. Learning in science and social studies helps our children understand how the world works and their place within our society. A robust resource team helps us customize instruction for each child, providing second-chance learning on a daily basis, as well as enrichment opportunities throughout the curriculum. The whole child is educated through weekly classes in music, physical education, art, library skills, and Spanish. Our school counseling program also plays an active role through classroom lessons and a school-wide emphasis that “We are how we treat each other.” Baker’s leadership club expands on the district’s leadership academies and encourages children to explore who they are and how that can inform their future. Baker families are true partners in the educational process. The end result is a school community built on trust and focused on doing what is right for children.
