At Westerly Elementary School, third-grader Hannah smiles as she enters our building. Staff and students greet her by name, and she walks to her room excited about another day of learning. Hannah and all the other third and fourth grade students feel a sense of belonging to a warm, dedicated learning community. They are eager to engage in the challenges and high expectations presented to them.
Exemplifying the Bay Village City School District’s mission statement that “All Children Can Learn,” our staff of administrators, highly-qualified teachers, paraprofessionals, and support personnel are a collaborative instructional entity that provides each child the opportunity to learn in a risk-free environment. Working together as a team, instruction with seamless assessment is developed for each child to insure mastery of the state-mandated learning standards.
An actively-involved parent population partners with the school staff to provide support and communication between home and school. Commended as a National PTA School of Excellence, Westerly’s PTA provides educational experiences, materials, and countless volunteer hours to enrich each child’s education.
A new state-of-the-art media center offers not only access to current books, but also to technological experiences that support the curriculum. In the center of the school, our nationally-recognized outdoor science laboratory, including a greenhouse, engages students with plant and animal habitats. Students enjoy classes in music, art, physical education, and cultural language, which enhance their classroom learning. As Hannah and her classmates begin their day, we know that success awaits them!
