Maplewood Middle School (MMS) is a small rural school located in Northeast Ohio. The middle school serves 220 students in grades 5-8. All of the buildings in the district serve as a focal point in the community. The members of the Maplewood community take great pride in their school. This is demonstrated by both their financial commitment, as well as their presence at the numerous events occurring within the district.
Maplewood has a long tradition of excellence, including not only athletics and academics, but also the visual and performing arts. Over the past six years, MMS has earned numerous awards and distinctions. In 2011 MMS was recognized as National Title I Distinguished School for “closing the achievement gap between student groups.” Within the State of Ohio, MMS has been recognized as a School of Promise for the past four years, as well as a High Performing School of Honor for the past three years.
Through the tireless work of our teachers, the schedule was modified to include blocked periods of English language arts and math. The staff utilizes shared planning to collaborate and continually looks for ways to improve instruction. All of our students are held to high academic standards. It is truly part of the culture at MMS that failure is not an option. Being a recipient of the National Blue Ribbon is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the staff, students, parents, and community.
