NBRS Badge for Icahn Charter School 2

Icahn Charter School 2 - Bronx, NY

Icahn Charter School #2 is K-8 school located in Bronx, NY. The school has an enrollment of 321 students, of whom 79% are economically disadvantaged. Icahn 2 has an extended-day and extended-year model. In addition to following NY State Common Core Learning Standards, Icahn 2 uses the Core Knowledge curriculum, which is designed to provide a distinct outline of material to be covered by grade in order for content knowledge and skills to be built upon in a cumulative manner from year to year. Icahn 2 believes in the philosophy that all students can learn, which is why so much emphasis is placed on reaching the full scope of diversity, and closing the gap between those in need, and those craving a challenge. Efforts include differentiation of all lessons, small-group instruction with the aid of Targeted Assistance teachers, and re-teaching of challenging concepts with programs such as Saturday Academy, after-school tutoring, and morning book club. These programs allow our students to gain knowledge which will make them college- /career-ready to meet the Common Core. Additionally, the staff, students, and parents have a close working relationship and clear expectations are communicated regularly.

Icahn Charter School #2 provides an environment in which all staff members share one vision. By using best practices and providing individualized attention to our students, we have been able to achieve success on standardized exams. It’s a combination of best practices, effective programs, and dedicated staff that contribute to our success.
