Students engaging in a Character Education Assembly

Character Education has always been a top priority at Liberty Corner School. It is our belief that in order to provide an excellent academic education, you must lay the foundation of strong character. We are very proud to be named a State School of Character by The New Jersey Alliance for Social, Emotional, and Character Development and a National School of Character by Character.org. We have demonstrated through a detailed evaluation process that character education has had a positive impact on our academics, student behavior and school climate.

Together, we focus on a specific core value each month including: Respect, Responsibility, Compassion/Empathy, Trustworthiness/Honesty, Caring, Self-Control, Fairness and Citizenship. On Fridays, a full period is dedicated to Character Education activities in the form of assemblies, classroom meetings, read alouds and buddy activities that combine students across the grade levels. Students infuse what they have learned into the content of all subjects and their everyday interactions in the classroom, hallways, cafeteria, and all areas in and around the building and community.

Each day we strive to provide a safe and positive learning environment where teachers and students feel comfortable taking risks and participating fully in the education process. Our staff works hard to contribute to and provide a meaningful and challenging curriculum that respects and values all learners. In the end, we hope to prepare students to be life-long learners who care deeply about their communities.
