Students work in multi-age groups to learn leadership skills at Novi Woods.
Novi Woods is Growing Great Leaders! The diverse learning community at Novi Woods expects and develops each student to be respectful, responsible, and successful citizens both academically and socially. Our classrooms are clustered into grade-level teams, and each team facilitates the learning of the curriculum and uses data to evaluate and support student progress. Homeroom teams collaborate with Art, Music, Physical Education, and Media teachers, and our dedicated support staff to provide rich and dynamic learning opportunities for all students. In addition to our rigorous curriculum, Novi Woods actively teaches leadership skills and expects students to become the leader of his/her own learning. Each student maintains a “leadership” notebook where academic and personal goals and action plans are set and monitored. Two times a month students meet in small, multi-aged groups to engage in common, building-wide lessons on leadership. Since students stay with the same adult in their small group throughout their years at Novi Woods, these close relationships foster another expectation for success. Leadership lessons also come in the form of our daily physical workout program, all-school leadership assemblies, principal-led leadership “chats,” dedicated and daily “lead” time, and numerous opportunities for students to be leaders at school and in the community. Novi Woods is committed to continuous improvement through reflective practices and proactively partners with our remarkable PTO and families and our supportive community to develop each student's potential. While it may seem cliché, Novi Woods truly lives the phrase, “It takes teamwork to make the dream work!”
