Forest Grove Elementary School is one of seven high achieving elementary schools in the bedroom community of Hudsonville, Michigan, located between Grand Rapids and the Lake Michigan shoreline. Forest Grove is the smallest school in the district with a student body of just over 300 students, approximately 25% of whom are Schools of Choice or In-District Transfer students. This high percentage of choice students, compared to the county average, is a direct reflection of the school’s reputation, values, and commitment to maintaining a small town feel in a large, growing community. This commitment translates to high academic performance as evidenced by Forest Grove’s continual recognition by the Michigan Department of Education for being a High Performing School, Beating the Odds School, and Reward School (96th or higher percentile among Michigan schools). This success is attributed to a highly skilled and deeply committed staff who believe in partnering with families and the community to educate the whole child. Parent volunteers log hundreds of hours serving the students and staff, and character education is at the core of a well-rounded academic program. Students participate throughout the year in multi-aged peer groups that promote citizenship and community service. Through partnerships with community agencies such as Hand2Hand, Kids Hope USA, and the Children’s Advocacy Center, Forest Grove strives to meet the diverse needs of all students. At Forest Grove Elementary, we live the ancient African (Yoruba) proverb, It takes a whole village to raise a child.
