Meeting the Challenge.

Meeting the Challenge.

Smithsburg High School continues to evolve and improve to ensure that our students are college and career ready by engaging them in a rigorous curriculum while teaching what it means to be responsible citizens of the 21st Century. While Smithsburg High School has performed at a very high level for several years we are working collaboratively with staff and the communities to continue to develop and employ innovative programs without losing our “small town” feel.

We build on the academic success of our strong feeder schools to achieve a greater than 97% pass rate on the English, Algebra, and Biology High School Assessments. In recent years Advance Placement (AP) participation drastically increased while the AP pass rate increased. SHS continues to increase and expand rigor, including; offering AP United States History to freshmen, implementing innovative programs like the Smithsburg Academic Leadership Team (SALT), and Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID).

Smithsburg High School is striving to be one of the best schools in the nation, but we believe that being the best will not matter if our students can’t look back one day and remember their time here as one of the best times of their lives. We have a very active student body. Our students participate in many different clubs and organizations to further their interpersonal skills that will ensure success in the future. The various extra-curricular activities offered to our students are in many ways the glue that holds us together.
