Memorial Elementary is located in the northwest corner of Indiana in the city of Valparaiso. Memorial is one of eight elementary schools in the Valparaiso Community Schools, with an enrollment of 310 kindergarten through fifth grade students. Memorial Elementary is committed to educational excellence for all students. Memorial students have consistently achieved high scores on the Indiana ISTEP+ assessment. Memorial is rated an A school and is an Indiana Four-Star School. The Memorial staff works collaboratively to meet the needs of all types of learners. All school resources, including teacher time and additional aides, are shared to provide support for students who may be struggling and for students with high achievement.
Memorial Elementary's mascot is a Valparaiso Viking with “HEART.” HEART stands for Honesty, Effort, Attitude, Respect, and Teamwork. These HEART life skills are embedded in the school culture and they are taught, reviewed, and practiced each and every day.
Memorial Elementary is fortunate to have a very supportive and involved Parent Teacher Organization (PTO). The PTO helps provide supplemental learning resources such as technology, books, and furniture. They also implement many educational and fun family activities, such as the Discovery Fair, Turn off the T.V. Week, Saturday Night Live, Brush with the Masters, and Junior Achievement. Many parent volunteer hours make Memorial an exciting and enriching learning environment.
