Sunnyside Elementary School - Sioux City, IA

Sunnyside Elementary is one of 16 elementary schools in the Sioux City Community School District, located in northwest Iowa. Our district is the fourth largest district in Iowa and proudly serves over 14,000 students in grades preschool-12. The District exists to educate students to believe in their talents and skills, achieve academic excellence, and succeed in reaching their potential.

Sunnyside Elementary serves students in grades 3-5. Nodland Elementary is our sister schoo, serving students in grades transitional kindergarten-2. The elementary schools offer a positive, welcoming, and nurturing learning environment for our students. Our parents are active partners in the learning experience of our students. The staff, parents, and community hold high expectations for student achievement.

Sunnyside Elementary has grade level PLCs that frequently analyze student achievement data and plan lessons collaboratively. Common assessments are used at each grade level in all content areas. There is a 30-minute intervention period held daily to support and accelerate students. Our teachers have opened their doors to teacher leaders who coach, model, and support teachers. In addition, Sunnyside Elementary teachers work to continually improve instructional practices and increase student achievement.

Our dynamic staff creates opportunities for students to assume leadership roles in our school. We have an active Student Council that assists in beautifying the campus, gathering canned food items for a local food pantry, and awarding scholarships to former Sunnyside Elementary students through fundraisers led by students. Sunnyside Elementary is a great place to teach and learn.
