Students and Staff celebrating at Davis Elementary!

Davis Elementary is a public school set in rural Iowa, 45 miles from Des Moines and 60 miles from Iowa City. Davis Elementary houses third and fourth grades, with six sections per grade level and approximately twenty students per class. The Davis Elementary DNA believes that all students can and will learn, emphasizing growth for not only students but also staff. This belief challenges us to provide learning opportunities for students at all levels.

Provided for all students are learning opportunities in and outside the classroom. For example, Davis offers an acceleration period called RADAR to support learning needs across the achievement spectrum. Students are mixed based on learning needs instead of traditional grade level spans. Data are utilized to make instructional decisions and student progress in monitored regularly. Learning also takes place outside the classroom where students can apply learned concepts in a variety of ways, from 3rd graders planting and maintaining a community garden to 4th graders camping at a nearby Y-Camp to experience learning in nature.

Connection to the Grinnell Community is an important part of our students' learning experience. The community supports learning outside the school walls and is also invited into the school regularly to take part in activities that focus on the arts, academics, and service to enhance the learning connection. Our community and Davis Elementary are passionate about learning for all students, and we possess the belief that all students can and will learn.
