Haha‘ione Elementary School is located in East Honolulu on the island of ‘Oahu. Haha‘ione serves students in grades Pre-K through 5th grade. In 2013, Haha‘ione became an International Baccalaureate World School. Through the Primary Years Programme curricula, students have the opportunity to construct meaning to better understand their learning. This empowers them to develop and ask questions, investigate, research, analyze, reflect on and synthesize information to solve problems, and demonstrate their knowledge. Students are asked to reflect on themselves as learners, engage in discussions, and collaborate. Our culminating experience is Exhibition. Fifth-graders participate in collaborative student-led inquiry addressing a local or global issue they are passionate about. They apply their understanding in action and service. Students initiate interviews, learning trips, and work with legislators, non-profit organizations, and other professionals in the field. Finally, students showcase the results of their inquiry and celebrate their learning.
Preparing students to be 21st century learners and global citizens sensitive to varied perspectives is important. Strong partnerships among our faculty, families, and the community allows Haha‘ione to create learning opportunities that support the whole child. Together we offer programs in Mathematics, English, Mandarin, PE, Music, Art, ELL, and Special Education to address and enhance the learning needs and experiences of students. Various technology programs and skills are also provided. At Haha‘ione, we are continuously transforming our efforts to create a learning environment that enables the growth of every student. It is truly a place “where helping hands join on a journey of wonder and discovery.”
