Whispering Oak Elementary is a diverse community of students from Pre-K through fifth grade. This school was established in 2004/2005 and has been designated as an “A” school and a “Five Star School” every year. The grade is based on test scores but the “Five Star School” award is based on strong parental and community support as well as academics. Our school has faced the challenge of being overcrowded from year one, growing from a projected enrollment of 600 students to 1500 students and after three relief schools, to our current number of 860 students, still over capacity.
Our professional development has focused on strategies to provide rigorous, standards-based instruction that stretches the learning of every student. We provide a variety of enrichment programs within the school day and through private vendors after school for the convenience of our parents. These programs include dance, music, Spanish, sports and fitness. Our STEM lab has provided hands-on activities for all students and our fine arts program enhances learning through art, music and physical education. Our fourth and fifth grade classes are departmentalized allowing the teachers to teach to their strengths and empower our learners to succeed.
Our goal is that of establishing a culture of high expectations with a growth mindset. Students are encouraged to persevere through challenges and that hard work pays off. Our successes as a school have resulted through tremendous support from our parents and community and an unrelenting focus on the pursuit of excellence by our staff.
