Montemalaga Elementary School is named after its location, a lovely mountain above Malaga Cove, on the Palos Verdes Peninsula in southern California. Our mascot, Monte the Eagle, aptly represents our students, who are encouraged to fly to great heights.

We take pride in the strong educational partnership we have developed among all members of our community. Students, teachers, parents, staff, and the principal form a dynamic decision-making team that provides exceptional educational support for our children. Montemalaga is committed to fostering a safe and caring environment, while preparing students to become lifelong learners, to achieve academic excellence and to live as responsible citizens who value and respect all individuals and make positive contributions to society.

The teachers and staff at Montemalaga support all students by helping them reach and exceed state standards. Our school is determined to offer programs, curriculum and enrichment opportunities that further develop the whole child such as: the STEM science lab and curriculum, implementation of a school wide Writer’s Workshop program, exposure to an outdoor science garden and curriculum, use of Cognitively Guided Instruction methodology in math, participation in a bi-weekly physical fitness program taught by a credentialed physical fitness teacher, a comprehensive art program, music education and weekly student use of the modernized technology in the Library Media Center.

We recognize the incredibly important need to support our English Language Learners, Response to Intervention students and special education students, hence we fully staff a Learning Center which supports these students on a daily basis.
