James Dougherty Elementary School is located in the eastern part of Dublin, one of Northern California’s fastest growing cities. The school is committed to providing programs designed to meet the academic, social, emotional, and physical needs of all of its students. These programs foster a safe, positive learning environment that aims to develop self-motivated, independent, and enthusiastic learners who strive for academic excellence, social responsibility, and positive personal growth.

Over the past five years, Dougherty Elementary School has seen a 43% increase in student population. This rapid and diverse growth has brought challenges of a high mobility rate as well as an increase in English Language Learners (ELL). All students who require additional academic support due to issues of language acquisition or mobility are provided with a systematic, individualized Response to Intervention plan that includes differentiated and tiered interventions in both ELA and math.

Dougherty students overcome challenges through the support of a well-trained and dedicated staff of professional educators and extraordinary parent and community support. Parent Faculty Club members and parent volunteers assist by providing funding and activities centered on supporting student learning and enriching the school community. All students are exposed to opportunities in Project Based Learning, hands-on Science Technology Engineering Arts and Math (STEAM) labs, and lessons in Arts in Action. Each is a hallmark of the depth and power of community engagement.
