Bear Exploration Center’s faculty and staff are committed to ensuring that students are inspired to achieve to their fullest potential. Instruction is research-based, student-centered, data-driven, and promotes active student engagement. Strong emphasis is placed on collaboration, hands-on activities, multi-sensory and alternative strategies, and project-based learning experiences. Students participate in enrichment activities in our science lab, visual arts classes, Spanish, music, physical education, and technology-infused classrooms. Our students have a unique school environment in our outdoor classroom, which includes a teaching pavilion, weather station, chicken coop, butterfly house, turtle pond, beehive from which we harvest honey, and grade-level gardens. Extensive field studies are organized to enhance the curriculum and all students participate in the Aerospace Connections in Education programs to further stimulate STEM careers. Students are encouraged to take part in additional learning opportunities including the Honor Chorus, Bear Feet Jump Rope team, WBEC-TV broadcasting as anchors or technicians, the National Elementary Honor Society, Junior Safety Patrol, supply cart workers, annual math and science nights, annual grade level musical productions, and an annual art show which promotes visual arts, after-school discovery clubs, which include Young Engineers, Digital Designers, Chess Club, Gardening, Shake-n-Bake, and Knit One to Save One. Camp Invention and Beekeeping Camp are held in the summer. Bear Exploration Center has a high-performance culture in which every member is expected to perform to high standards. Our students consistently rank among the best in the state. We celebrate successes, collaborate effectively, and possess a commitment to education.
