Gilbert Linkous Elementary celebrates 50 years of excellence!

Welcome to Gilbert Linkous Elementary, Home of the Linkous Lizards! Nestled in Blacksburg, Virginia, Gilbert Linkous Elementary (GLE) is a treasure waiting for you! For 50+ years GLE has had a stellar reputation of high achieving students, dedicated teachers, supportive parents, and an involved community. GLE's mission "Building a learning community that inspires individual growth" is reflected in everyone’s "Can-Do" attitudes and commitment to the school and its students. GLE is named for a long-time Montgomery County School Board member whose legacy is his belief in a quality education for all. The school's vision... "An exemplary school, whose personnel, parents, students, and community transform ideals into reality" supports Mr. Linkous' aspiration.

GLE students work hard. Lessons are fast paced, comprehensive, and engaging including experiments, manipulatives, and interesting books. State Standards are taught using creative methods with attention to student needs. Students experience Virginia's history and opportunities on field trips: learning comes to life marching on battlefields, standing on the state capital floor, or by touching a camel. Enrichment classes taught by university students, GLE teachers, and parents include foreign languages, Speedy Lizards Running Club, and decorating cupcakes. Near Virginia Tech and Radford University, GLE has students from around the world. Its diverse population helps everyone appreciate and celebrate their differences.

On Fridays the happy Linkous Lizards proudly wear green and orange shirts emblazoned with "LINKOUS" on the front. Weekly Orange Notes, class newsletters, and our website keep everyone current. The school is honored to have received many academic and fitness awards from the VDOE. However, the greatest award is when past students and parents return to talk about how much they love GLE! GLE is The Place To Be!
