Kathyln Joy Gilliam Collegiate Academy - Dallas, TX
Gilliam Collegiate scholars pursuing academic excellence.
Kathlyn Joy Gilliam Collegiate Academy (GCA) is an early college high school serving 9th-12th grade scholars in the southern sector of Dallas ISD. GCA was designed to serve first generation college scholars, low-income scholars of color, English language learners, and other young people underrepresented in higher education. With nearly 97% of the scholar body considered minority and over 80% identified as low socioeconomic, GCA boldly accepts the challenges and defies the norms of urban public education. Driven by the district’s core beliefs and strong scholar engagement, GCA continues to show significant scholar progress in closing the achievement gap among at-risk scholars.
In perfect collaboration with the Cedar Valley College, GCA provides a unique opportunity for these traditionally under served scholars to earn a high school diploma and an associate’s degree. Our model ensures that each scholar has access to a rigorous curriculum and college credited courses, while the highly qualified GCA family strives to ensure that each scholar, each day, receives the best instruction and opportunities for success.
The core of our scholar success is positive scholar relationships and high scholar expectations. Through participation in robotics, Zumba, debate, photography, journalism, and leadership/mentoring programs, GCA encourages scholars to explore their gifts, talents, and potential career interest. GCA takes pride in providing an atmosphere where scholars feel encouraged to do their best, challenged to achieve higher, and appreciated for their efforts and accomplishments. GCA understands the challenges and important work of tomorrow and is equipping a community of scholars to meet those challenges.
