Located in a rural setting with roughly 485 students, Donaldson Elementary draws from varied residential communities. It has established a strong connection with students, parents, and the community, supporting service projects throughout the school year, such as food drives for the WA Food Bank, Pennies for Pasta, Girls on the Run, and Student Government donations to the community. Likewise, the community strongly supports the school with scientists from Bayer Corporation and the program Donaldson Discovers, involving parents, businesses, and/or volunteers from the community and county, all coordinated in conjunction with the supportive PTA.

A culture of high expectations for achievement and growth for all types of learners has propelled Donaldson Elementary to reach greater levels of success. The staff is committed to improving their performance and to delivering a high quality education that provides rich, rigorous learning experiences for all students. The school is known among parents and students for having a warm, caring environment that is palpable from the moment one enters the school. Staff members treat students in a respectful, caring manner and endeavor to meet all students' needs. From kindergarten to fifth grade, students are made to feel welcomed and important with a message of acceptance in a bully-free school climate. A visitor could observe positive interactions among students and staff that are mutually supportive, contributing to a healthy school environment. Students are regularly recognized for positive behavior and for achievement. The school community of Donaldson Elementary collaborates to do what is best for students.
