Purvis J. Behan Public School 11 is committed to developing life-long learners through a standards-based curriculum with a rich Arts and enrichment program. It views all children as viable contributors to society who will grow to appreciate and cherish their own uniqueness as well as that of the world around them and beyond. It is of the belief that it takes all stakeholders, i.e., administrators, teachers and parents, working collaboratively to create a school community where all children can flourish to reach their fullest potential.

Located in Clinton Hill, Brooklyn, P.S. 11 serves a diverse population of 743 students in Pre-Kindergarten through grade 5. P.S. 11 has a rich history of serving predominantly African American students and has shown tremendous success in closing the achievement gap with low income students and students of color.

Students engage in writing in all learning areas, including art, science, and technology. Each student receives art and music instruction, hands-on science education, and an intensive literacy and mathematics curriculum carefully designed from best practices and fully aligned with the Common Core Learning Standards. A dynamic and collaborative parent community supports student achievement through its after-school enrichment program and school leadership initiatives.

P.S. 11 holds the New York State distinction as a "Reward School" and earned an "A" on the NYC Progress Report for two consecutive years. Additionally, P.S. 11 has consistently met and exceeded Adequate Yearly Progress targets as per The NYS Education Department.
