Kindergarten students engaged in an interactive read aloud

Mount Prospect School houses almost seven hundred students in preschool through fifth grade. A rigorous curriculum, which fosters flexibility and diversification, is presented to all students. The staff employs current educational practices which promote our high academic and moral expectations. In addition, we recognize and celebrate the similarities and differences of our multi-cultural population.

Our literacy program is a balance of shared, guided, and individual reading with phonetic integration. Process writing is a strong component of our language arts program. Our math program is an inquiry-directed approach that complements our curriculum goals and objectives. Students' individual differences are met through a number of high quality services provided in the areas of enrichment programming, after school activities, ESL classes, literacy support, and special education. All students are exposed to art, music, technology, media skills, and physical education.

Mount Prospect was named a 2013 Reward School for High Performance by the State of NJ for overall student achievement. The school’s academic performance is equal to or above the 80th percentile of NJ Schools. In the past five years over 90% of our students have consistently performed in the proficient or advanced proficient range in both ELA and Mathematics on the NJASK Standardized Assessment.

One of the great strengths of Mount Prospect School is that the entire staff works collaboratively with students, parents, and community members to foster productive, responsible citizens in the 21st century. Students will encounter rich, varied experiences that will accommodate their unique and individual learning styles.
