West Elementary School is a Title 1 school in a small-town located in the heart of Kings Mountain, North Carolina. Each day staff and students venture to collectively put forth an extra effort to achieve exponential results. They strive to provide a positive learning environment where students and parents feel welcome and staff members are valued for the work they do each day. This is evident in the school's collective approach from the office to the classroom to the cafeteria.
Teachers are aware that student learning is actualized when academic, physical and emotional needs are met. In an ever changing world, one must continue to embrace challenges and work with community partners to find solutions. The school is fortunate to have supportive parents and community members that value education, and it partners with local organizations to provide resources that help meet the goal of closing the achievement gap for all students.
The school community is proud to be part of the National Blue Ribbon Award recipients. The teachers and staff members work diligently each day to provide an engaging and rigorous educational experience for all students. Data are utilized to determine student needs and tier plans are written to support intervention and progress monitoring. In addition, Wildcat Power Hour is scheduled for each grade level where differentiated instruction and individualized services are provided on a consistent basis. The staff, parents and community members are united in the efforts to positively impact student achievement one child at a time.
