Instilling a love of learning

Instilling a love of learning

Tucked away in a small neighborhood in Cary, North Carolina, Briarcliff Elementary is a traditional school marked by its 'family' atmosphere. Parents and visitors are openly welcomed as a part of a vital community dedicated to making a positive difference for the students.

Teachers, students, parents, and the larger community work together to build a safe and welcoming environment, while maintaining high expectations for students and teachers. The cultural and socioeconomic diversity of the school is its strength. Even with a highly mobile population in the area, Briarcliff melds the best of all groups to form a cohesive learning team. The community takes an active interest in supporting the school's goals by providing financial assistance and sending volunteers to work with children and teachers.

Collaboration is at the heart of the school's instructional practice. From the Art Room to the Classroom, teachers work together to instill a love of learning in all students. The dedicated staff maximizes instructional time to ensure success at all levels.

Data is effectively used to plan instruction that challenges each student to grow and reach their highest potential. Students are engaged in learning activities that foster creativity and encourage them to delve deeper into the curriculum.

It is important to Briarcliff to educate the whole student. After-school clubs such as a Running Club, Literacy around the World, Scratch Computer Programming, Student Council, Recycling Team, and many more provide ample opportunities for students to tap into their passions.
