Teachers analyze students to identify literacy processing strengths and needs.

Teachers analyze students to identify literacy processing strengths and needs.

"If not us, then who? If not now, then when?" Those words reflect the passion, the drive, and the mission of excellence at Henry School. It is ultimately the school’s responsibility to make a difference for every child. The focus is not to be a school of programs, but a community of teachers who study students, train, and teach based on what students know. The mission at Henry is to create capable, curious, and confident learners who are prepared for the ever-changing world.

The focused journey includes: Collaborative Learning Team (CLT), Student Growth Team, 7 Habits-Character Education, Care Team, Diversity Team, Reading Recovery Team, On-site University Literacy Processing Class, Guided Reading, and Behind the Glass Observational Literacy Learning.

Since literacy is critical for all curriculum areas, we have a yearly university Literacy Processing class where staff learn "in-depth" strategies for analyzing and teaching reading and writing. Also, all students learn in Guided Reading Groups at their instructional levels. Teachers give one-on-one running records to individually assess each child’s reading behaviors. Another unique component is our Behind the Glass Observations where students are taught as we observe and collaborate to identify literacy processing strengths and needs.

We recognize the greatness of others during Career Day, Multicultural Fair, Veterans Day Assembly (honoring 135 veterans), and Ability-Disability Awareness Day.

The PTO promotes the Henry Reading Recognition, Math and Science Nights, Henry’s Heroes, "7 Habits Training," and "Summer Reading and Math Challenges."

Excellence for all students requires excellence in all. The time is now.
