"Cat Packs" Celebrate Kindness and Diversity through Peace
Wattles Elementary is successful because of its student focus and support, school organization and culture, challenging standards and curriculum, active teaching and learning, integration of technology, professional learning communities, shared leadership, wonderful and diverse students, and partnerships with families and the community.
As an educational team, Wattles is dedicated to academic excellence and holding high expectations to ensure that each and every student will be a successful learner. The school is committed to creating a safe and positive learning environment where staff and students promote and model responsible, respectful behavior in order to provide each student the best learning opportunity.
The staff is committed to promoting a rich learning environment which encourages deep student thinking. Student thinking must be valued, visible, and actively promoted on a daily basis. Student thinking is analyzed and used to plan for future instruction.
"I" time (Intervention Time) is scheduled throughout the academic day for each grade level to receive 30 minutes of support with tutorial specialists, reading specialists, general education teachers, and English Language Learner staff four times a week. During this time, intensive instruction and remediation and/or extensions occur individually and in small groups based on academic need.
We build community with our cross-grade level "CAT Packs" which stay consistent throughout a student’s entire time at Wattles. "CAT Pack" meetings focus on anti-bullying lessons and positive character education.
Parental involvement is integral to the success of Wattles students. Parents are encouraged to make suggestions and share experiences with other parents.
