Aukamm Elementary School, a Department of Defense Education Activity school in Wiesbaden, Germany, enrolls about 250 students within the Kaiserslautern School District. We live in a military community consisting mostly of Army and Air Force personnel, their families, and the civilians supporting the military mission. Our students are "military kids" who have at least one parent serving in the military or working in a related civilian position. Because our students live overseas and have parents who deploy to war zones or are frequently away at training exercises, it is imperative that our school is a safe haven and source of stability to foster resiliency in our military children. Every three years, these kids are transplanted to a new school, a new community, and a new group of peers. They are expected to bloom (academically, socially, and emotionally) immediately where they are planted. Aukamm creates the friendly and caring atmosphere where that blossoming does occur. Aukamm faculty and staff strive daily to fulfill our mission of being "Committed to Inspiring a Community of Life-Long Learners." We are a school that works in partnership with parents, the military community, and our German neighbors because we are all committed to providing our students a high quality education, an education that will prepare them to be productive adults. We accomplish this through intentional data analysis that drives instruction, differentiation of that instruction, a strong focus on reading and math, technology that ignites interest and knowledge, and rich cultural experiences to enhance learning.
