NBRS Badge for Rossmoor Elementary School

Rossmoor Elementary School - Los Alamitos, CA

Rossmoor Elementary ignites unlimited possibilities for all children.

Rossmoor Elementary ignites unlimited possibilities for all children.

Rossmoor Elementary is one of 10 campuses in the Los Alamitos Unified School District located in Southern California. The Rossmoor team ignites unlimited possibilities inspiring learners to accomplish extraordinary success; and in turn, we close the achievement gap. Closing the achievement gap is the result of practicing the components of a PLC and focusing instruction, assessment, and professional development into our school wide signature practices. Rossmoor identifies standards students should master, the assessment tools to use, how instruction will be modified when students master concepts, and how interventions will be executed if students struggle with the information. Rossmoor’s signature practices are taught in every classroom. These practices include Reader’s Workshop, Writer’s Workshop, Cognitively Guided Instruction (CGI), Thinking Maps, ST MATH (Jiji Math) and Depth and Complexity prompts. Rossmoor focuses all professional development into our signature practices. We move the success of these practices from the classroom into the student’s homes through parent volunteers, author’s celebrations and parent education nights. Together as a team, and as a community, we close the achievement gap through signature practices and intervention. The Rossmoor team models to our students how to celebrate, reflect, and make individual academic and behavior goals. Rossmoor has a STAND UP student motto, "I am a Rossmoor Knight, I STAND UP for myself, I STAND UP for my friends, and I STAND UP for what is right!" Our staff models behaviors for students to stand up against bullying behaviors, be an active bystander, and engage in cooperative relationships.
