Created by parents to extend a cooperative preschool into an expansive public elementary school, Clarendon is a strong community model, including a school-run website where staff and teachers post homework, weekly newsletters and announcements. More than 40% of our families participate in school governance, and nearly 100% show support in volunteerism and fundraising. This community spirit led Clarendon to collaborate on a co-teaching model between special and general education teachers to improve inclusive practices for students with a wide range of disabilities, English language learners, ethnic minority and immigrant communities, and students with a wide variety of learning styles and emotional needs. Clarendon is proud of the high academic achievement of all our students which is a direct result of these inclusive practices. We offer Japanese or Italian to all students and have strong ties with the Italian and Japanese consulates and other community organizations in our diverse, urban environment. We enjoy partnerships with museums and universities that enrich our arts and science programs. This is celebrated in our annual Community Arts and Science Day, a day devoted to many small workshops presented by local artists, scientists, and parents, and culminating in the raucous Great Clarendon Egg Drop. Clarendon facilitates learning at the highest levels by embracing a collaborative teaching and learning model that celebrates differences as an asset to learning.
