Teacher leading cooperative learning.

Centerpoint Primary School is part of the Centerpoint consolidated school district located mid way between the communities of Glenwood and Amity, Arkansas. We are a Title I school that serves around 300 students Pre-K through third grade: 70.7% identified as economically disadvantaged, 14.3% students with disabilities, and 15 % English Language Learners. The increasing poverty and diversity of the student population have presented new challenges that have been addressed through differentiated instruction and interventions. We were placed on the Arkansas watch list for not making adequate gains in literacy in 2010 at which time we began the implementation of a comprehensive approach to literacy. Instructional leaders were brought in to provide embedded professional development, assist teachers in the use of assessment data to drive instruction, demonstrate research based instructional strategies and assist the teachers with implementation in the classroom. Common planning time for teachers, large defined blocks of reading and mathematics instruction and defined times for intervention show our commitment to instruction and learning for all students. The results of our hard work are as follows: 2012-2014 Achieving School in both Math and Literacy 2012-2013 Named as an Exemplary School in Arkansas 2012-2013 Outstanding Educational Performance (OEP) top 5 list in Math Achievement 2012-2013 OEP top 25 list in "high-poverty" Literacy and Math Achievement 2013-2014 Top 10% in the State in Literacy and Math 2013-2014 National Blue Ribbon School Nominee 2013-2014 Outstanding Educational Performance in the area of Math
