Crawford Elementary, a 3rd through 6th grade school, is located on Eielson Air Force Base about 20 miles south of Fairbanks. While we serve our surrounding community outside the base, the majority of our students are military dependents. We have a collaborative culture within our school community where students are regarded as belonging to all of the staff, rather than assigned to one classroom teacher. Teachers consistently join forces to discuss and plan activities looking to serve the whole child. The creation of our Parent Teacher Organization last year has boosted our volunteer base, creating a more positive and visible support system for our parents and students. District curriculum provides the foundation upon which our teachers build interesting and engaging lessons for our students. Teachers are aware of and utilize individual learning styles where appropriate, so that each student has the opportunity to gain the maximum educational experience. Programs like RTI, Star Reading, and Star Math help our teachers monitor individual student progress, while other computer based program such as Accelerated Reader, Moby Max, Brain Pop, provide differentiation and learning extensions for our students. Art and music education, as well as physical education, taught by highly qualified specialists round out our student’s schedule. The staff and students of Crawford Elementary have always taken pride in doing their best to give and receive the best possible education and to be life-long learners. All of our staff members lead by example making it easy for the students to follow.
