Scioto Elementary School serves 660 children in central Ohio’s Teays Valley School District. Rapid population growth presented a challenge for Scioto to meet the educational needs of the continuously increasing student body. The school district and community worked together to maintain excellence throughout the district; new schools were constructed, old schools were replaced, and improvements were made to existing facilities. Scioto’s former building was replaced with a new facility to house a student body that has more than doubled in ten years.

Scioto has a highly dedicated staff, supportive community, and hard-working students who collaborate to form an excellent learning environment. The principal’s dedication, high expectations, frequent classroom visits, and open-door policy to address concerns from stakeholders are a large part of the school’s success. Instruction at Scioto is guided by the belief that each student has enormous potential to learn and will be successful when actively engaged in the learning process. The highly qualified teaching staff and extensive support staff demonstrate the utmost concern for the welfare of Scioto students. Parents are actively involved, providing several programs that enrich the core curriculum. Students come to school each day ready to learn and follow the high expectations they helped develop. The collective efforts of Scioto’s dedicated staff, students, parents and community has resulted in five consecutive “Excellent with Distinction” ratings on the ODE School Report Cards.

The commitment to excellence demonstrated by Scioto’s staff, students, parents and community are the reasons Scioto Elementary School has been designated a 2013 Blue Ribbon School in 2013.
