NBRS Badge for PS 46 Queens The Alley Pond School

PS 46 Queens The Alley Pond School - Oakland Gardens, NY

P.S. 46Q is an ethnically and economically diverse kindergarten through 5th grade barrier-free school located in northeastern Queens, New York that services the highest number of Special Education students in our district.

A component of the school’s success relies on a community including parents invested in the concept that all children are capable of learning at high levels through expert differentiated, individualized instruction, and enrichment. All members of the P.S. 46Q pedagogical staff focus on a strong educational foundation working collaboratively to identify student strengths and needs, plan instructional goals and implement academic programs through weekly grade and subject team meetings, utilizing data culled from a variety of formative and summative assessments and observations.

To support these efforts, the administration continuously provides differentiated professional development for all staff members insuring that they are kept apprised of the most current pedagogical methodologies.

In addition to hands-on project-based instruction in compliance with the common core learning standards, there is a strong emphasis on the arts, physical education, technology, and community service. Walking through the school, one is struck by the vibrancy of the student created written displays, artwork, and the wide variety of sounds including children having meaningful educational discourse, creating music through song and instruments, and cheering each other on in the pursuit of physical fitness. Technology is infused in all subject areas with state of the art equipment available throughout the building.

The backbone of P.S. 46Q’s achievements is accomplished through the dedication and collaborative efforts of the administration, staff, and parents. We are all “Joined Together in Excellence” in making The Alley Pond School a high achieving school.
