At Elizabeth Lenz Elementary School, we put learning at the center of our daily activiities. Our dedicated staff uses student work and data to fine-tune teaching strategies. Through our Professional Learning Community (PLC) work, we use the Plan, Do, Study, Act approach. The instructional staff work collaboratively to plan rigorous and challenging lesson objectives using the Common Core State Standards. The instuction is presented to our students and the results are analyzed for effectiveness. Those students mastering the standards will be given enrichment activities while those struggling with the content will be taught using an intervention strategy. Our goal is to have the highest percentage of student gowth in Washoe County.

Technology is also a big part of our success. In 2007, we had one multi-media cart with a laptop and an LCD projector. District personnell was invited to speak to our instructional staff and parents about the need for 21st Century learning. After those professional development trainings and parent meetings, our PTA dedicated all fundrasing efforts to the purchase of an ActivBoard in each classroom, including the music room and computer lab. This advanced technology has helped our school develop and implement a 21st Century student-centered technology infrastructure.

The collaboration between home and school has also been an integral aspect of our continued academic and social success. Last year, 98% of our parents participated in parent/teacher conferences. Many parents and families volunteer in our classrooms on a daily basis and make a significant difference at our school. Our parents use Infinite Campus to stay informed about their child's daily academic and social progress. We have developed a strong partnership with our families and community.
