Wildwood High School sits on a five mile long barrier island along the coast of New Jersey. Wildwood is a summer resort with a year round population of about 5,000. Wildwood High School faces the challenges brought about by a seasonal economy, a highly transient student population, students who are learning English as a second language, and who may have an interrupted education.Despite these seeming disadvantages, Wildwood High School has many advantages. The small size of our school district and high school, and our correspondingly small class sizes ensure that students receive a high degree of personalized attention from teachers, guidance counselors, and administrators. It is difficult for anyone to "fall through the cracks" here, because many adults are looking out for each student. We know the students, their parents, and extended families. We know their individual challenges and have dedicated people working everyday to ensure that each student graduates having met their fullest potential with us. At Wildwood High School, we leverage this intimate knowledge of students and families to target instruction for each student in a form that will provide the greatest impact. Our intention is to develop students who can think, learn, and problem solve independently. The Wildwood School District has implemented a district-wide plan and extensive training for teachers in the area of differentiated instruction. This has allowed teachers to reach students who may not achieve at the highest levels possible through traditional means and to guarantee that all are prepared for a successful future.
