NBRS Badge for Star Elementary School

Star Elementary School - Rush, KY

Star Elementary is a small rural school located in Eastern Carter County, Kentucky. It serves students from Pre-K through fifth grade. Our teachers work very hard on a daily basis to provide our students the best education possible, and to make them successful not only at the elementary level, but also to become college and career ready. Our school implements several different programs to insure that all students have the chance to be successful learners. One is a Read to Achieve program implemented in grades first through third grades. We also have a strong RTI (Response to Intervention) program for all students, Kindergarten through Fifth grades, in the areas of Math and Reading/Language Arts who are not achieving 80% mastery. We feel these programs along with our strong classroom room instruction allow us to reach all students and allows them to be successful. The staff at Star Elementary knows the importance of involving both the families and community to give our students the most opportunities and the best chance for success. We want to involve all stakeholders in both the social and decision making process for our school. Star's Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) is a very active and important component in our schools success. Even though our school is small in number it is large in the amount of time and effort our PTO spends to establish a strong relationship between the school the parents and the community. Finally, we have a saying in our school that "Parents want teachers who care, and teachers need parents who care." We feel these things are what makes us a successful school.
