West Franklin is a consolidated high school serving four rural communities in Northeastern Kansas. Focused on student success, WFHS maintains an atmosphere of high expectations related to teaching and learning. Our goal is to maintain a tradition of academic excellence.
Kansas College and Career Readiness Standards guide learning opportunities at West Franklin. A blended curriculum of traditional high school courses, career and technical education classes and course work resulting in college credit are available to our students. Nearly sixty-five percent of our student body is involved in career and technical education classes in addition to extra-curricular activities. WFHS students are required to exceed state requirements in order to graduate.
Our students have maintained significant gains in the core areas or reading, math and science over the past six years. In 2012, ninety-seven percent of our students were proficient in reading and ninety-eight percent in math. Our school has been recognized by the Kansas Public Education Task Force for closing the achievement gap among our at-risk students.
Engaging students in learning so they can function successfully in the 21st Century and beyond continues to drive instruction. Learning strategies that employ high level cognitive abilities; application, analysis, evaluation and creativity; will continue to enhance instruction.
