Greenbriar School is nestled near downtown Northbrook, an upper-middle class suburban community on Chicago’s North Shore. In this neighborhood school, approximately 400 kindergarten through fifth grade children learn and grow, nurtured by respectful collaboration between staff and parents.

Our goal is to challenge students to their fullest potential, as they develop into life-long learners. Our school’s comprehensive curriculum, community engagement opportunities, and school traditions are designed to achieve that mission.

Students enjoy rich curricula across content areas. Our workshop-based literacy model immerses students in authentic literacy experiences, while the math curriculum challenges students’ thinking and asks them to apply problem-solving strategies in novel situations. Whatever the subject, the goal is to differentiate instruction to offer students a learning experience that is tailed to meet their needs. Greenbriar offers interventions or challenge opportunities to support learning in and out of the classroom. In addition, students benefit from weekly experiences in art, music, library, and science lab, as well as daily instruction in physical education and Spanish, while technology is integrated throughout the curriculum. We believe in educating the whole child, and our students focus on social-emotional learning through our KIDsmarts character education program.

Students benefit from small class sizes and dedicated teachers who are committed to ongoing professional development. In our school, 93% of teachers have a master’s degree or above, and three faculty members have achieved National Board for Professional Teaching Standards certification.

Greenbriar is fortunate to have parents who are actively involved in their children’s education. Our PTO provides enriching experiences for our students, partners with us to sponsor school traditions and events, and maintains a strong connection between home and school.
