Middle Ridge Elementary, located east of Atlanta in Newton County, Georgia, was once identified as the fastest growing county in the United States. It is now designated as the county with the highest number of foreclosures in the country. With approximately 700 students, the school is diversely populated with students of all cultures. Middle Ridge strives to meet the challenge of their transitory and socially-economically disadvantaged (87.43 %) student needs. Uniforms are worn, which focuses the learning atmosphere on academics. Students in need are provided with a daily breakfast. The school has received a grant that affords all students with a fruit/vegetable snack daily. Numerous philanthropic and religious organizations, as well as community partners, are generous in donating school supplies for the teachers and students. A multiplicity of people, programs, ideas, and industry are employed in supporting students in realizing and advancing their possibilities in education. Bulding background knowledge for the student population is an essential component to the academic success of Middle Ridge. As our learners' world expands in word and knowledge, so does their desire for experience and acheivment. As a Positive Behavior Intervention Supports (PBIS) school, students are given the opportunity to participate in "Mustang Marvelous Parties" and the "Mustang Market" as incentives for their appropriate behaviors. Partners in education, along with school board members visit the school to tutor the students and assist teachers in the classroom. Middle Ridge has also established relationships with some of the students' favorite social scenes in the community and is deeply grateful to an ever increasing group of parent volunteers. Educators at the school are truly THE BEST at teaching and loving their students.
