Bugbee School is a vibrant, high-performing Pre-Kindergarten through grade five elementary school located in a quiet suburban neighborhood. As one of 11 public elementary schools in West Hartford, Bugbee has experienced tremendous growth over the past decade, serving approximately 470 students today. The hallmark of the “Bugbee Experience” is that all members of our community are heavily invested in the success of every single one of our children. We enjoy the benefits of being part a flagship district: a highly trained, enthusiastic staff; dedication to the use of the best curriculum and teaching strategies; on-going commitment to the arts across all grade levels; and cutting edge assessments and interventions that promote the most successful learning for all students in a diverse community.

We pride ourselves on interfacing innovatively with district initiatives. When the goal was set to have teachers collaborate through direct observation of each other, we procured iPads for all our teaching staff to utilize technology as a means to easily share and provide feedback. As the national conversation turned to the critical importance of quality early childhood experiences, Bugbee opened a full-day, full-school-year Pre-Kindergarten classroom integrated directly into our K-5 model, including drawing students from our neighborhood and historically underserved neighborhoods as well. As Connecticut rolled out RtI (SRBI), we expanded supports for students who need a boost and increased our efforts to implement enrichment opportunities through our teaching staff and highly qualified family volunteers. Bugbee is a great place to learn and achieve because of the collaborative commitment that exists between and among our students, our staff, and our broader community.
