NBRS Badge for Columbia Elementary School

Columbia Elementary School - Colorado Springs, CO

At Columbia Elementary, our success can be summed up in three simple words: ,Every student matters. We have worked tirelessly to create a system in which students thrive. Instead of making excuses, we have made a commitment to breaking stereotypes and providing students with every intervention necessary to make them successful. We could sit back and complain that we do not have the people and resources necessary to get to everyone. Instead, we work harder and we work smarter, utilizing all of our resources. Our Music and PE teachers lead reading groups. Our secretary helps with fluency interventions. Our principal works with students one on one. Teachers spend their summers reworking their assessments to properly monitor their students. Everyone does their part to ensure that students are successful! Every student matters at Columbia and we show that with our actions, not just our words.

This work is not missed by our students. From day one, they realize that the work they do here is important. No time is wasted. No excuses are accepted. Students are assessed on the first day of school and begin working in their intervention groups on day two. These groups range from basic phonics skills up to advanced comprehension groups for higher learners. Every student is instructed at their level and every student realizes that what they do here matters. At Columbia learning happens in every classroom, for every student, every day!
