Walnut Grove Elementary is one of eleven elementary schools in Madison County, Alabama. Walnut Grove was established in 1920 and has evolved over the years into a high-achieving school. Walnut Grove’s achievement gains have ranked our Pre-K-5 school as the top achieving elementary school in our county. More than 60% of students attending Walnut Grove qualify for subsidized meals. The school’s economic divide is not reflected in student learning or parent participation as it relates to student success.
District benchmarks keyed to Common Core standards and common formative assessments guide teachers in recognizing students’ strengths and challenges. Regular Response to Instruction meetings of subject and grade-level teams denote the development of plans for personalized enrichment and supports for every student. A school-wide focus on professional learning and participation in our district’s Professional Learning Communities and Powerful Conversations Network keeps teachers, staff, and administrators abreast of learning and pedagogical advances.
