2017 Award Announcement

U.S. Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos has announced 342 schools as the 2017 National Blue Ribbon Schools.

The award is based on a school’s overall academic excellence or marked progress in closing achievement gaps among student subgroups. National Blue Ribbon Schools demonstrate that all students can achieve to high levels. In her video message, Secretary DeVos praised the 2017 schools: “National Blue Ribbon Schools are active demonstrations of preparing every child for a bright future. You are visionaries, innovators, and leaders.”

The Department will honor 292 public and 50 private schools at a recognition ceremony on Nov. 6 – 7 in Washington, D.C. In its 35-year history, the National Blue Ribbon Schools Program has bestowed this coveted award on some 8,500 schools.

The National Blue Ribbon Schools 2017 Awards Ceremony Update

When: Monday, November 6th and Tuesday, November 7th, 2017.

Where: Omni Shoreham, Washington, DC

Ceremony Registration. Each school is invited to send the principal at time of nomination and a teacher (or other school personnel) as official school representatives. In the event there is a new principal at the school in September 2017, both the current building principal and principal at time of nomination are invited to represent the school. If your superintendent intends to attend you are responsible for the superintendent’s registration. Only registered school/district personnel will be noted at the awards ceremony as official school representatives.

Please register all official school/district representatives by Tuesday, October 24, 2017 using the online system.

Hotel Reservations

There is no registration fee for the ceremony, but the costs of travel and lodging are the school’s responsibility. This year’s ceremony will be held at the historic Omni Shoreham in Washington, DC. A block of rooms are being held at the special rate of $169 plus tax per night for a single room from November 3 – 8, 2017. Please reserve your rooms using the online system, on or before 6:00 pm, Tuesday, October 17, 2017 to ensure your lodging.
